About Smoop

As a holistic nutritionist, I am always brainstorming ways to help both my patients and myself find ways to nourish ourselves. Most of us understand the benefits of eating a whole foods diet rich in vegetables, fiber, good fat, micro-nutrients, and protein, but putting it into practice is where the equation usually falls apart. How many of us really get 7-10 servings of vegetables per day?

Smoop’s roots were born from my thesis research at Hawthorn University. While studying Holistic Nutrition, I moved home to Santa Cruz, Ca. to take care of my stepmother while she was battling the final stages of cancer. During the stay, my indecision about my thesis topic became decidedly clear when I caught sight of the stockpile of commercial meal replacement drinks that were stacked in my stepmom’s garage.

I spent the next 9 months dissecting and analyzing the sickeningly artificial ingredients in the most popular meal replacement drinks with their function on health (or detriment), while experimenting with whole food alternatives. I set out to design a product to help people thrive, not just keep them alive. Many of the commercial brands of meal replacement drinks create a toxin burden in the body with fake color, allergens, chemicals, neurotoxins, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and oxidized fat.

Food has the innate ability to heal and nourish us, but as a culture we have lost our way. It’s time to get back into the kitchen and take back our health! Eating and cooking real food is an act of self love.

Throughout the years, I have used my lovingly designed meal replacement drink recipe in clinical practice working with doctors on some extremely sick patients. What we have seen over the years has been truly remarkable. When we eliminate what is causing inflammation and toxic burden in the body, and replace it with real food with health giving nutrients the body has a fighting chance to regain balance.

Smoop evolved from medical food to something we can all use daily. It has all the essential nutrients needed to make it a power-packed super meal. Ayurvedic philosophy understands the importance of foods being digestible to be nourishing. Smoop is not only suitable for someone with compressed digestion, or battling illness…but also a convenient, super nutrient-dense, delicious on the go “smoothie soup” ready to nourish!
