Mr Stylz, Not sure I can possibly agree that Canon Lenses are better than Nikon! Nikon are renowned for making some of the best optical products in the world and probably come second to Leica for quality. Is there any particular reason you think that Canon are better?
@ bartekr i agree with your comments - in addition i would like to point out that the difference between 6 or 8 mp can be compensated by the quality of the lens. that will say if you have a bad quality lens with a 8mp camera you might get a worse quality pic than with a 6mp camera with a high quality lens.
MrStylz, I cannot agree that Canon has better lenses than Nikon. Both have really good lenses in the upper class, but they are expensive. When it comes to lower-end, cheap Nikkors are better than cheap Canon lenses. The lens which comes with EOS 300D/350D isn't very good or sharp but the kit lens which comes with Nikon D70 (no idea about D70s though) is good and sharp enough. At the end of the day both Nikon and Canon cameras have wide choice of 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tokina or Tamron and some of them are pretty good, not much worse than high-end Canon or Nikon lenses but for half of their price.
When it comes to size, it's always your personal choice. I prefer Nikon D70 here, it fits perfectly in my hands - so me and my camera become one. But cannot tell if the size is an advantage or disadvantage - everyone will simply have his own opinion here.
Both of these cameras are really good ones and are practically the only choice when you want a DSLR in that price level. Choosing one or another might be a really hard choice if you're new to (D)SLR photography. If you're not very new, you probably have lot of accessories that suits one of the systems (lenses, flashes, etc) so you don't have much choice as long as you don't want to buy everything again. :)
Good quality, but I went with the Canon 350D for a few reasons:
Nikon felt like a brick / larger vs. Canon light / smaller
Nikon 6mp vs Canon 8mp
Canon Lenses are better than Nikon
Be sure to shop and compare on your own, but I suggest putting this up against a few models and using them in a shop before purchasing.
